Award Padma Shri 2020

Today, 15/08/2022, in which we honor the master Swami Dayananda, our master and teacher Gloria Arieira received from the Government of India, through the Embassy of India in Rio de Janeiro, the Padma Shri award for commendable contribution in the field of Literature and Education. The award was presented at a ceremony to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India's independence, held at Píer Mauá, with the raising of the Indian Flag.
The award was announced in 2020, but its delivery was postponed due to the pandemic.

One such remarkable personality is Gloria Arieira, a Brazilian scholar who devoted her life to studying and disseminating India’s ancient philosophical traditions. Her contributions to Sanskrit studies and Advaita Vedanta have earned her international recognition, including India’s prestigious Padma Shri in 2020.

Gloria Arieira is a Brazilian Sanskrit scholar, Vedanta teacher, and founder of the Vidya Mandir Centro de Estudos de Vedanta e Sânscrito in Rio de Janeiro, renowned for disseminating Advaita Vedanta and ancient Indian texts in Portuguese to audiences in Brazil, Portugal, and Argentina.
Born in Brazil, Arieira developed an early interest in spiritual philosophy, leading her to attend a lecture by Swami Chinmayananda in September 1973, where his explanation of God as the intelligent and material cause of the universe profoundly inspired her. At age 20, she traveled to India in January 1974 with her husband and immersed herself in intensive studies of Advaita Vedanta under Swami Dayananda Saraswati from 1974 to 1978, training at ashrams in Mumbai, Rishikesh, and Uttarkashi while also exploring sacred sites across Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
